What is ARFID?

Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), also known as selective eating disorder, is a complex eating disorder characterized by the persistent refusal to eat specific foods or a lack of interest in food. Unlike other eating disorders, ARFID does not involve concerns about body image, weight, or shape. Instead, it is driven by sensory sensitivity to the taste, texture, smell, or appearance of certain foods, fear of unpleasant consequences like choking or vomiting, or a generalized lack of interest in eating.

Role of a Food Checklist App in ARFID Therapy

A food checklist app can be an invaluable tool for those dealing with ARFID, especially within a therapeutic context. It can help individuals track their food intake, identify patterns, and monitor progress over time. This can assist in gradually expanding the range of accepted foods, a key goal in ARFID treatment.
